From The General Manager
The last 3 months have seen significant increases in scrap steel prices above the levels seen earlier in the year. Furthermore, indicators on the level of impending price increases of steel input costs of iron ore, coking coal and scrap are continuing to rise. These costs directly relate into the cost of steel manufacturing.
Raw materials prices for structural steel have increased dramatically with price rises coming into effect 18 February 2008, 1 April 2008 and 12 May 2008.
As a result of increases in the cost of raw materials and associated costs from our suppliers coming in to effect with little or no notice we have become reluctant to quote firm prices for the duration of contracts and as such it is therefore necessary to quote all contracts "subject to rise and fall" for the duration of the contract.
Global steel industry forecasts still indicate that the current demand for raw materials required to manufacture steel is likely to prevail throughout 2008, with the potential for further price increases in the near future on a variety of steel products. An explanation of market volatility is available at www.onesteel.com/steelandtube.
We thank you for your support during 2008 and trust you will understand the need for passing on these price increases, as changes in raw materials and associated costs are not within our control. We are committed to working with you as closely as possible during this period of volatility, and assure you of our ongoing determination to provide the best service and quality steel fabrication work in the industry.
